Let's use October to follow-up on the Hurricane messages we sent last month.
Please ask in all Ward Auxiliaries:
- "Did you receive the hurricane prep information?"
If not, collect emails and/or give them a printed handout.
- "Did you receive the test phone call from President Checketts?"
If not, give their phone #s to the Ward Clerk to add to the Membership System and add them to Call-Em-All.
- "Did anyone prepare?"
If not, why not?

For the monthly Welfare Meeting ask the committee, how would they respond to an order to evacuate the ward region with a Hurricane on its way?
Here is a recommendation...
1. Our Stake will identify nearby stakes like Hartford, Poughkeepsie, Albany that will take in families and will notify the Bishops - BEFORE the evac order.
2. BEFORE the evac, the Welfare committee identifies those who can not evacuate themselves (lack of car, unable to drive). Identify persons who will help. Don't just assume the Home Teacher will do this. You MUST ask them and get their commitment - perhaps their car is filled with kids and pets and luggage or they live many miles away and might not be able to reach the pickup point when traffic is leaving town on all lanes. Parents must willingly agree and commit to saving others when their own family is at risk.
3. The Bishop informs his Ward of a meeting place for those with no-place else to go. Keep in mind the Welfare principals, families take care of themselves if they can (hotel?), or stay with friends & family, and turn to Welfare as a last choice.
4. The Bishop or delegate greets families at the assigned meeting place and works with church authorities to find families a place to stay.
5. The Bishop or delegate helps feed the sheltered families.
This plan is a work in progress and may change. Feedback from Welfare committees is greatly desired.
