May 2010 - Easy Home Inventory

If your house burns to the ground, what proof do you have of your belongings?
a. You could store receipts of expensive items in a firesafe box, bank safe deposit box, or outside the home like an office.
b. You might be able to use your credit card history as proof of purchase.
c. Or you can inventory your home. Use or borrow a digital camera or camcorder and walk around the house taking images of $$$ items - don't forget jewelry, your computers, appliances, furniture, and anything else expensive to replace. Be sure to store the images and/or camera memory chip in a safe place outside the home. Consider uploading the images to a secure and private website for safe keeping. I would not publish them openly on Facebook or Flickr - why show the world what's available to be stolen?
